The Advantages and Disadvantages of Robotic Process Automation

Robotic process automation keeps operational costs low and reduces human error associated with repetitive tasks. In one case, an international financial institution and a major customer used 85 robotic program bots to perform 14 different processes which handled more than a million requests in just one year. The system saved the company more than $2 million. In addition, the system has been proven to increase productivity and to reduce errors in the processing of orders.

Today’s new generation of software robots, also referred to as ‘artificial intelligent’ robots, is making its way into every business enterprise, including medical equipment manufacturing, retailing, banking, government agencies and many more. There are so many benefits of these programs. However, there are a few downsides as well. As of the present, automated software tools are mainly used in big companies.

Most business firms have already invested a lot of money in investing in automation systems and are still investing. They are hoping for returns on their investments. The downside is that these programs are quite expensive. In some cases, they are too expensive to use in small businesses, who need the assistance but can’t afford the expenses. In addition, it takes time and effort to train new employees for using these programs.

A lot of small businesses in other countries don’t have enough budget to invest in these programs. In fact, most business firms think these automated programs are a threat for their business, especially if they want to save money. This is because these robots can replace human workers, even in jobs which can be easily programmed. Some of the programs are so complicated that not only does the business firm have to spend more on training and on maintaining the equipment, they also have to spend on the salaries of new employees and their benefits.

For small-sized or large organizations, the cost of having robots as an outsourcing tool is still a costly investment. This is because the machines used are too large and expensive to manage. In addition, these systems cannot help to increase productivity and their accuracy is limited to a certain level.

Due to these drawbacks, there are some companies which have developed and released new software systems. The main advantage of these systems is that they automate a lot of tasks while at the same time making work more efficient. This is because these programs take up less space and they do not require too much energy, unlike human workers. For instance, a robotic program can complete the tasks of several people in less than two hours. They can handle a number of tasks simultaneously.
